Welcome to the clarty clan!
About me
Hi I’m Morgan, I am the owner and main grower at Clarty Produce. My interest in growing was sparked after spending many hours during covid lockdown in the garden with my mum. Here I unearthed (excuse the pun) a new found connection and love for things that grow.
In 2021 I decided to study an Organic Horticulture Certificate to learn more about growing organically. After being made redundant from my job as a Product Owner for a tech start up, I have decided to go full time with Clarty.
My philosophy is to work with nature not against it by gardening with the maramataka which follows the cycles of the moon, using organic, permaculture, and regenerative horticultural and agricultural principles.
I grow a diverse range of fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers and other plants. I seed save where possible. Greater biodiversity and forming a reciprocal relationship with the land helps to build kai resilience for our future.
I will leave you with my favorite quote which inspires me to find connection and heal through gardening; “The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life.” - Wendell Berry
About Clarty
Clarty is situated on 4 acres in Brixton, New Plymouth, Taranaki. Fortunately it has rich volcanic loam soils and well established shelter belts and has been cultivated using organic principles over the last 7 years, working towards sustainability. Clarty land supports 4 adults, a few dexter cows, mixed breed sheep, chickens, bees, fish, cats & dogs, 100 tree avocado orchard, fruit trees, food forest and home vegetable garden. Excess produce was shared with friends and family, traded at crop swap and donated to food rescue “On The House”. Now we feel ready to expand by creating our market garden so that we can also supply to our local community. We have had help in establishing our gardens from the Helpx and Timebank communities, creating connections both locally and worldwide. In 2021 we featured in The Sustainable Backyards section of the Taranaki Garden Festival and plan to enter Clarty again in 2024 to let visitors see how the garden has grown!
I think it’s important to know where your food comes from. You are welcome to visit us and learn more about our growing methods. Contact us to organise a visit.
